چکیده
conclusions these results indicated that eaec strains isolated from iranian children with diarrhea were heterogeneous and showed high resistance rates against commonly used antibiotics, which was similar to that reported in studies performed in other countries. results significant percentage of local eaec strains carried the virulence plasmid genes and formed biofilms. in addition, these strains showed high resistance to ampicillin (100%), tetracycline (65.7%), streptomycin (58.7%), chloramphenicol (52.6%), and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (51.7%) and had different pfge patterns. materials and methods eaec strains were examined for virulence plasmid genes (aap, aggr, and aata), biofilm formation, and drug resistance. in addition, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (pfge) profiles of these strains were determined. background several studies performed in developed and developing countries have identified enteroaggregative escherichia coli (eaec) as the emerging cause of pediatric diarrhea. objectives this study investigated the phenotypic and genetic characteristics of eaec strains isolated from children with diarrhea between 2007 - 2008 in tehran, iran.

Phenotypic and Genotypic Characterization of Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli Strains Isolated From Diarrheic Children in Iran
MATERIALS AND METHODS EAEC strains were examine...
متن کاملGenotypic and phenotypic characterization of enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) isolates from diarrheic children: An unresolved diagnostic paradigm exists
Objective(s): The enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) has been one of the most intriguing emerging bacterial pathogens in children that occur both in developing countries and the industrial world. Although various phenotypic and genotypic based protocols have been suggested for diagnosis of EAEC, they are not conclusive or practical to be used in most clinical la...
متن کاملGenotypic and phenotypic characterization of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli strains isolated from Peruvian children.
Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) is a major cause of childhood diarrhea. The present study sought to determine the prevalence and distribution of toxin types, colonization factors (CFs), and antimicrobial susceptibility of ETEC strains isolated from Peruvian children. We analyzed ETEC strains isolated from Peruvian children between 2 and 24 months of age in a passive surveillance study. ...
متن کاملPhenotypic and genotypic characterization of Escherichia coli O157 strains isolated from humans, cale and pigs
A total of 90 Escherichia coli O157 isolates recovered from humans, cale, and pigs, were examined for the presence of the H7 antigen, ability to produce Shiga toxins and enterohemolysin as well as for antimicrobial resistance and biochemical properties. Fourteen of the human strains (n = 23) and 21 of the bovine isolates (n = 29) were of the O157:H7 serotype as determined by agglutination and ...
متن کاملPhenotypic and Genotypic Characterization of Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) strains in Tehran, Iran
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) strains can be detected by serogrouping and the presence of enterocyte attaching- effacing (eae) gene. Most EPEC strains belong to a certain O antigenic group. Locus of enterocyte effacement (LEE) Pathogenicity Island contains the eae gene and secretory proteins (ESPs) that introduce the attaching-effacing lesion. LEE inserted i...
متن کاملGenotypic and Phenotypic Characterisation of Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli from Children in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) is a significant cause of diarrhoeal illness in both children and adults. Genetic heterogeneity and recovery of EAEC strains from both healthy and diseased individuals complicates our understanding of EAEC pathogenesis. We wished to establish if genetic or phenotypic attributes could be used to distinguish between strains asymptomatically colonising hea...
